ITINERARY:
We will pick you up from your hotel or address in Sofia and within hour and a half journey by private car or minivan we will arrive at Malyovitsa mountain resort in the Rila Mountains National Park. The snowshoe begins in the direction of the symbolic peak of Malyovitsa. We reach the hut named after the peak, where we can stop for a short break and a cup of herbal tea, admiring the views of the surrounding jagged peaks and the impressive over 200 meters-tall granite north wall of Malyovitsa peak. Already above the tree we continue uphill in the valley enjoying the tranquility of the winter wonderland. Passing by the frozen Elenini lakes situated at 2479 m a.s.l., we reach the summit of Malyovitsa – 2729 m a.s.l. In a clear day our efforts will be rewarded with breath taking panorama! After a short break on the top we snowshoe downhill the same way to the van for a transfer (approx. 1.5 hours) to Sofia.
Walking (snowshoeing) time: approx. 3 – 3.5 hours uphill / 2.5 – 3 hours downhill
Total ascent / descent: approx. 1000 m
Bus / car transfer duration: approx. 3.5 hours / 190 km
